Using Focus

Focus is powerful, but also easy to start using because it requires almost no setup. The best ways to use Focus to increase your productivity are described in detail below (and in the video tutorial).

Focus Mode

To start using Focus, simply click the Focus icon in the menubar and click Focus. This will turn Focus on for an indefinite amount of time and block the default websites (like Facebook and Reddit).

Timer Mode (Pomodoro)

A timer may be more useful if you want to Focus for a certain amount of time or work via pomodoros, and using one is just as simple. Click one of the times below Focus, such as:

  • 15 minutes
  • 25 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • Custom...

If you select custom time, you'll receive a popup dialog where you can enter any time you want. The more frequently you use a time the likely it is to appear in the dropdown menu.

Schedule Mode

Sometimes scheduling productive blocks of work is the most effective way to get things done. Focus is extremely flexible so you can create exactly the schedule you need to stay on top of everything.

Hardcore Mode

If you need a little extra push while using Timer or Schedule modes, then Hardcore Mode is here to help. With this mode enabled, you can't change preferences or stop Focusing until the timer or schedule is up.

URL Blocking

It's common to need to customize the blocked URLs, which is extremely easy—and even supports whitelisting.
